Music and entrepreneurship both flourish, for Clay Sheff, from attention to detail.
As a successful producer, engineer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and owner and founder of Smash Studios, he emphasizes quality for every nuance of the business and the art. That’s why Smash has remained the epicenter of recording and rehearsals in the Big Apple for everyone from Jay-Z to Harry Styles since first opening its doors in 1989, living up to its moniker of empowering artists to make smash hits.
Stephen has spent his career coming up with innovative and exciting ways to educate and entertain kids and families. Graduating from the teaching program at the University of Minnesota, Stephen has won multiple awards for excellence in arts education and peace education.
Stephen founded both Kids Creative, The Dirty Sock Funtime Band and now the Cape Fantastic with his brother Adam. Kids Creative won the award for best NYC summer camp and the Dirty Socks were mainstays on Nick Jr. for years and voted best band for kids by Time Out NY.
Stephen created Come Join the Band in 2011 for his students Charlie (who is now starting to teach with CJTB!) and Henry, who were learning so quickly that they needed a place to jam! Since then, CJTB has had the privilege of teaching hundreds of NYC kids to play.
